TerraMaster has officially released its latest addition to the storage market with the introduction of the D4 SSD, a four-bay direct-attached storage (DAS) enclosure designed for high-speed data transfer and seamless storage expansion. Targeted at content creators, video editors, and professionals handling large file workflows, the D4 SSD brings USB4 support for faster performance, compact portability, and compatibility with a wide range of devices.
Built around the USB4 protocol, the D4 SSD delivers data transfer rates of up to 40 Gbps. When fully populated with four high-speed M.2 NVMe SSDs—such as the Samsung 990 PRO 4 TB—and configured in RAID 0 through macOS Disk Utility, the enclosure can achieve read and write speeds of up to 3224 MB/s. Even in single-drive mode, users can expect read speeds of up to 1608 MB/s. Compatibility is also a key feature, with support for Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 5, USB4, and legacy USB 3.2, 3.1, and 3.0 protocols.

Each of the four M.2 slots supports NVMe SSDs up to 8 TB in capacity, giving the D4 SSD a total potential storage capacity of 32 TB. This configuration is not only suitable for standalone DAS use but also for expanding NAS setups. TerraMaster notes that the D4 SSD can be paired with its upcoming F4 SSD all-flash NAS system to effectively double the NAS storage capacity, offering a flexible upgrade path for users managing large multimedia libraries or project files.

The enclosure is designed with portability and quiet operation in mind. Its compact form factor and lightweight build make it suitable for mobile professionals, while the use of solid-state drives ensures low operating noise. TerraMaster states that the unit produces just 19dB in standby mode. In terms of power, it accepts a wide voltage input range from 12V to 20V, making it compatible with common adapters used for laptops, monitors, and compact PCs. This helps reduce the need for carrying a separate power supply during travel or on-site work.
For data protection and file management, the D4 SSD supports automatic backups on Windows systems using TPC Backupper. It also includes support for the TDAS Mobile application, available on both iOS and Android, allowing users to back up media files directly from their mobile devices.
The TerraMaster D4 SSD is now available for purchase through the company’s official website and authorized retailers. It comes with a standard 2-year warranty and access to lifetime technical support.
