Streum On Studio Regains Independence After Four-Year Acquisition by Focus Entertainment

Paris-based game developer Streum On Studio has officially parted ways with publisher Focus Entertainment, regaining its independence after a four-year period under the company’s ownership. The move marks a return to the studio’s roots as a self-reliant game developer, just as it begins teasing a new project set to be unveiled later this summer.

Founded in 2007, Streum On Studio originated from a small team of developers who previously collaborated on a Half-Life mod titled Syndicate Black Ops. The studio’s first commercial release came in 2011 with E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy, a first-person action RPG built on Valve’s Source engine. The game was notable for its complex cyberpunk setting, which drew from a tabletop RPG system developed internally by the team. Players were cast as agents of a secretive faction navigating political intrigue and factional warfare in a universe ruled by a dominant federation of planetary systems.

After the release of E.Y.E., Streum On Studio shifted focus to licensed titles under the Warhammer 40,000 franchise. This resulted in two first-person shooters: Space Hulk: Deathwing, launched in 2016, and Necromunda: Hired Gun, which followed in 2021. Both titles were published by Focus Entertainment, with Hired Gun ultimately paving the way for Focus to acquire the studio later that same year.

However, the partnership has now concluded. Streum On Studio has repurchased its shares and opted to return to operating independently. Neither party disclosed the financial terms of the separation, but the studio stated that the decision was mutual and made in the interest of long-term creative freedom.

The timing of the split comes just as Streum On Studio prepares to announce a new game. A teaser trailer has already been released, offering a brief glimpse at the upcoming title. While details remain limited, the studio has confirmed that a full reveal is scheduled for later this summer.

With Summer Game Fest already concluded, speculation points to a potential unveiling during Gamescom 2025. The event, which remains Europe’s largest gaming trade fair, is set to take place in Cologne, Germany, from August 19 to 24. If confirmed, it would mark Streum On Studio’s first major announcement since regaining its independence.

As the studio enters a new chapter, long-time followers of its work are watching closely to see how this renewed autonomy will shape its creative direction moving forward.
