Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro Rumored With Under 20% CPU Gain, Adreno 850 GPU Upgrade May Lead Performance Gains

Qualcomm is expected to introduce the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 later this year, with both chipsets reportedly moving to TSMC’s 2nm manufacturing process. The transition to a smaller node typically improves power efficiency and thermal characteristics, while also allowing higher frequencies. However, recent information suggests that the CPU performance increase may not scale as much as previously expected, even with architectural changes and updated core configurations.

According to a post shared by tipster Fixed-focus digital cameras, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro is expected to adopt a new ‘2 + 3 + 3’ CPU cluster, replacing the ‘2 + 6’ layout used in the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The revised structure could allow Qualcomm to balance performance and efficiency cores more effectively, potentially enabling higher sustained clock speeds of around 5.00GHz. Despite these changes, the leak claims that the overall CPU improvement could remain below 20 percent compared to the previous generation.

While compute gains may appear limited, the GPU is expected to receive more noticeable changes. Qualcomm is rumored to equip the chipset with the Adreno 850 GPU, which may include increased cache capacity and support for LPDDR6 memory. The graphics component is also expected to feature a wider memory bus, reportedly increasing bandwidth by up to 50 percent. These changes could help improve performance in gaming workloads, graphics rendering, and AI-related tasks that rely heavily on memory throughput.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 has already demonstrated the ability to handle demanding titles through emulation software, and improvements to GPU bandwidth and memory could further enhance frame pacing and stability in similar workloads. Increased cache and faster memory may also benefit on-device AI processing, which continues to play a larger role in mobile software features.

At this stage, the reported specifications should be treated cautiously until Qualcomm provides official confirmation. More details regarding performance targets, efficiency improvements, and supported features are expected closer to the official announcement window later this year.
