Rockstar Games Delays Grand Theft Auto VI Again – New Release Set for November 19, 2026

Rockstar Games has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto VI will now launch on November 19, 2026. The studio stated that the additional time will be used to polish and finalize various aspects of the game. The announcement was made on Thursday and quickly drew attention from fans who have been waiting for the next major installment in the long-running Grand Theft Auto series.

In its official statement, Rockstar explained that the decision was made to ensure that the game meets expectations and upholds the level of quality the developer is known for.

“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve,” the statement read.

The company emphasized that the delay was necessary to deliver a stable and refined experience at launch.

The new entry in the series will take players to the fictional state of Leonida, offering a return to a modern-day Vice City. This marks the first mainline Grand Theft Auto title in more than a decade, following the release of Grand Theft Auto V in 2013. According to earlier details, GTA VI will feature dual protagonists and an expansive open world inspired by the southeastern United States. Rockstar is reportedly focusing on creating a more detailed and dynamic environment than any of its previous games.

The delay announcement arrived just ahead of Take-Two Interactive’s quarterly earnings report. The timing has drawn interest within the industry, as it follows reports of layoffs at Rockstar’s offices in Canada and the United Kingdom. Around 30 to 40 employees were reportedly affected. The Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB) has publicly criticized the move, alleging that some of the dismissed staff were involved in union organization efforts. Rockstar has not commented on these allegations, but the issue has sparked discussions about workplace conditions within large game studios.

This is the third delay for Grand Theft Auto VI. Initially planned for a 2025 release, it was later pushed to May 2026 before being postponed once again. Delays of this nature are not uncommon in the gaming industry, especially for large-scale projects with ambitious technical and design goals. Rockstar’s approach suggests a preference for extending development rather than releasing an unfinished product.

Despite the wait, anticipation for GTA VI remains high. The franchise continues to be one of the most successful in the entertainment industry, with Grand Theft Auto V surpassing 200 million copies sold worldwide. Many expect the next installment to bring significant advancements in graphics, storytelling, and world interactivity.

With another year added to the schedule, players will have to wait longer before exploring the streets of Vice City once again. However, Rockstar’s focus on delivering a polished experience may ultimately result in a more refined and lasting entry in the series. For now, fans will have to keep their patience as development continues toward the 2026 release date.
