Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that the next Tomb Raider game will make its first public appearance during The Game Awards 2025. Geoff Keighley announced the news on X, followed shortly by the official Tomb Raider account, setting expectations for a major update on one of gaming’s most well-known franchises. The showcase is scheduled for Thursday, December 11, at 7:30 PM Eastern Time, 4:30 PM Pacific Time, and 12:30 AM British Time.
This reveal marks a significant moment for the series, which has been quiet since the release of Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018. While Crystal Dynamics contributed to that project, the lead development came from Eidos Montréal. During that time, Crystal Dynamics was focused on Marvel’s Avengers, which launched in 2020. With that project now behind them, the studio has returned to Lara Croft’s adventures, a move fans have been anticipating for years.
In April 2022, the studio confirmed early development of a new Tomb Raider entry, along with a shift from its in-house Foundation Engine to Unreal Engine 5. According to Crystal Dynamics, the transition allows the team to build a more modern technical foundation for future titles. Shortly afterward, it was announced that Amazon Games would publish the new installment. Amazon later acquired the rights for film and TV adaptations as well, pointing to plans for a connected multimedia approach.
While official details on the game remain under wraps, a rumor from May 2024 suggested that the story might take place in India, featuring an open world map and motorcycle traversal. Although unverified, the rumor gained traction due to its level of detail. The upcoming reveal may finally confirm whether any of these elements are part of the new vision for the franchise.

Outside the game, the Tomb Raider universe is also expanding into television. Sophie Turner was recently announced as the actress who will portray Lara Croft in the new Amazon series. Production is scheduled to begin next year, with the show expected to release sometime in 2027. Amazon’s involvement across gaming and entertainment has fueled speculation that the next game and the TV adaptation may share thematic or narrative links.
For longtime fans, the upcoming reveal represents the first concrete update after years of anticipation. With the last major release arriving more than six years ago, many hope the new title will be ready by 2026. The Game Awards 2025 will likely set the tone for what comes next, offering the first official look at Crystal Dynamics’ direction for the future of Tomb Raider.
