MSI has officially announced the DATAMAG 40 Gbps, a magnetic portable solid-state drive designed to combine high transfer speeds with mobility. The drive supports the USB4 40 Gbps interface, enabling read speeds of up to 4000 MB/s and write speeds of up to 3600 MB/s. It will be available in 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB storage options, each backed by a 5-year warranty.
To support file management, MSI includes the DATAMAG App, which provides tools for checking storage capacity, backing up or restoring photos and videos, and ensuring data remains accessible across devices.
The DATAMAG features a magnetic attachment system that allows it to snap onto laptops, tablets, and smartphones with the included metal rings. This design ensures secure placement during use, while a built-in hanging ring keeps the drive accessible for travel or fieldwork.
The drive is designed with creators, photographers, and video editors in mind. Its high transfer rates allow users to move large project files quickly, back up 4K video footage, or edit content directly from the SSD without lag. The DATAMAG also supports ProRes recording on iPhone Pro models, enabling direct storage of professional-grade video. The 4 TB version can store up to 143 minutes of 4K/120 FPS content, making it suitable for high-capacity video projects.
