MindsEye Launch Faces Technical Issues, Details Patches Coming in June

MindsEye, the debut title from developer Build A Rocket Boy, has had a difficult launch. Shortly after its release, players began reporting a wide range of technical problems, from crashes and performance drops to missing in-game elements. In an unusual move, Sony has started issuing refunds for the game through the PlayStation Store, which is known for having a strict policy on digital refunds.

Reports from players began surfacing within hours of release, with many sharing videos of bugs, glitches, and gameplay problems. Some users reported being unable to complete missions, while others experienced serious frame rate drops and system crashes. The game’s official subreddit quickly filled with complaints, troubleshooting tips, and refund confirmation screenshots.

In response to the situation, Build A Rocket Boy posted a statement on the MindsEye‘s official X account. The message acknowledged the problems and stated that the team was “heartbroken” that some players were not able to play the game as intended. The studio pointed to a memory leak as the main cause of the performance issues, claiming that about one in ten players were affected.

To address the problems, the developer has prepared a series of updates throughout June. The first patch is set to roll out this weekend and will include improvements to CPU and GPU performance, memory optimizations, and fixes for several mini-games. These include a reduction in difficulty for the CPR mini-game, a fix for missing controls in MineHunter and Run Dungeon, and a new option to adjust or turn off Depth of Field settings.

There will also be pop-up alerts for players on PCs with certain hardware settings that could lead to instability, such as disabled Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling or CPUs that are known to crash with the current version of the game.

A second update, expected next week, will bring more performance fixes, correct an issue with vehicle wheels not spinning properly, and patch map areas where players can fall through the environment. A larger patch is planned for the end of the month and will include further performance improvements, adjustments to the “Hard” difficulty setting, animation updates, and changes to enemy AI.

While the studio has committed to regular updates and player communication, the damage to the game’s early reputation is clear. More players are sharing videos of their issues, along with warnings to avoid purchasing the game. With refund requests continuing and ongoing complaints across social media, Build A Rocket Boy will need to act quickly to stabilize MindsEye and regain player confidence.
