Lofree is preparing to introduce another unconventional keyboard design, continuing its trend of experimenting with form factor and switch technology. The upcoming Hyzen keyboard combines a compact 65% layout with a new hybrid switch design that merges mechanical and magnetic functionality. The product is scheduled to launch on Kickstarter on April 23, while early reservations are already open through the company’s official website.

Lofree has previously released products such as the Lofree Flow 2 and the Hypace wireless gaming mouse, both of which focused on distinct ergonomics and visual identity. With Hyzen, the company is shifting attention toward switch innovation and performance-focused features while maintaining a minimal aluminum exterior produced using CNC machining. The keyboard adopts a gasket mount structure, which is commonly used in enthusiast keyboards to reduce vibration and provide a softer typing response.

The Hyzen keyboard introduces the new Nexus switch, developed in collaboration with Kailh. The switch integrates a magnet inside the stem alongside traditional metal contacts, enabling it to operate as both a mechanical and TMR-based magnetic switch. According to Lofree, this hybrid structure delivers the tactile feedback typically associated with mechanical switches while also supporting adjustable actuation distance and analog input capabilities commonly found in magnetic designs. The combination offers added flexibility for users seeking faster response times or the ability to fine-tune key sensitivity based on their preferences.

Beyond the new switch technology, the Hyzen keyboard includes several hardware-based controls. A physical toggle allows the number row to function as a function row, with LED indicators positioned above the keys to display the active mode. The keyboard also features a rotary knob placed along the rear edge for volume adjustments, along with a dedicated switch that enables users to select between wired USB, Bluetooth, or 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity.

Internally, the keyboard is powered by a Nordic nRF54L series microcontroller from Nordic Semiconductor and supports up to an 8 kHz polling rate when used in compatible modes. Lofree also includes a 10,000 mAh battery in the wireless model, which the company rates for up to 80 hours of operation depending on usage conditions.
Pricing for the Kickstarter campaign is expected to start at $189 for the tri-mode wireless version, with a projected retail price of $299 after the crowdfunding phase. A wired-only configuration will also be offered at an early price of $169, with a planned MSRP of $279. The Hyzen keyboard reflects ongoing experimentation in switch technology, particularly as manufacturers explore ways to combine the feel of traditional mechanical designs with the customization options provided by magnetic input systems.
