Hogwarts Legacy Free on Epic Games Store Until December 18, Fortnite and Rocket League Tie-Ins Planned

Epic Games Store has launched a new holiday promotion, allowing players to add Hogwarts Legacy to their libraries for free until December 18. Avalanche Software’s 2023 open-world third-person action/adventure game can be claimed permanently until 5 PM on that date. The offer comes just weeks after the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales and marks one of the platform’s biggest seasonal freebies.

In addition to the free game, Epic Games has partnered with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to create crossover rewards in Fortnite. Players who spend at least two hours in Hogwarts Legacy on the Epic Games Store by December 18 at 11 AM Eastern Time can unlock the Chocolate Frog Back Bling in Fortnite. This applies to both new and existing owners of the game. Later in December, Fortnite’s in-game shop will feature outfits and accessories inspired by the Wizarding World, with customization options to represent Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff.

Rocket League is also celebrating the Harry Potter franchise during its annual Frosty Fest event. In the Hogwarts House Rivalry, players can earn points for their chosen house by playing matches, with challenge rewards and themed shop items available throughout the event. More details on the event will be shared later in December, giving players additional opportunities to celebrate the Wizarding World across multiple games.

Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game of 2023, surpassing even major releases like Call of Duty. The game sold over 35 million units worldwide. A Definitive Edition featuring additional content was reportedly in development with Rocksteady, but Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment ultimately cancelled the project. Despite this, a sequel has been confirmed as a top priority for WBIE, reflecting the game’s strong performance. While no release window has been announced, industry observers speculate that Avalanche Software could target a launch around 2028, based on the development cycle of the original game and ongoing support.

The free promotion on the Epic Games Store provides an opportunity for new players to experience the game and for existing players to unlock additional rewards in Fortnite. With multiple tie-ins across Epic’s library and ongoing celebrations in Rocket League, the Wizarding World continues to expand its presence in gaming, combining exploration, customization, and seasonal events for fans of all ages.
