Limited Run Games has confirmed the official release date for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction, a retro-style 2D action brawler based on the classic animated series. The publisher announced that the game will launch digitally on April 28 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC, alongside a new trailer highlighting gameplay and co-op action.
Originally revealed during Gamescom last August, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction is being developed by Bitmap Bureau, the studio behind Terminator 2D: NO FATE and Final Vendetta. The project draws inspiration from arcade and console brawlers of the late 1980s and early 1990s, blending pixel-art visuals with modern gameplay refinements.
Set in Eternia, the story follows He-Man and his allies as they attempt to stop Skeletor and Evil-Lyn from completing an ancient ritual linked to the Dragon Pearl. Players will be able to control He-Man, Teela, and other heroes from the franchise, each featuring distinct moves, special abilities, and character-specific power-ups. Battle Cat will also join the roster as a playable ally, adding variety to combat scenarios across the game’s 12 levels.
The title supports two-player local co-op, allowing fans to experience the campaign together on the same screen. The gameplay focuses on side-scrolling combat, enemy waves, and boss encounters, staying close to the structure of classic beat ’em ups while aiming to deliver tight controls across all platforms. The pixel-art animation and character designs are modeled after the original cartoon, reflecting the tone and visual identity that defined the franchise in the 1980s.

According to previously shared statements, Mattel sees Dragon Pearl of Destruction as part of a broader effort to expand its brands into digital gaming. Limited Run Games has also positioned the project as a tribute to long-time fans who grew up with Masters of the Universe, while making it accessible to newer players discovering the property for the first time.
Dragon Pearl of Destruction is a standalone release and is not connected to the upcoming Masters of the Universe live-action film scheduled for theatrical release this year. With its April 28 launch date confirmed, the game adds another licensed retro project to Limited Run Games’ growing lineup and continues the recent momentum around classic franchise revivals in the gaming space.
