Halo 2 and 3 Remakes Reportedly in Development, Starting with Halo: Campaign Evolved

A new wave of reports has surfaced regarding the future of the Halo franchise, suggesting that Microsoft’s long-running series is preparing for a major relaunch effort. According to leaker leaks_infinite, Halo: Campaign Evolved is just the beginning of a wider remake project that includes reimagined versions of Halo 2 and Halo 3 Games. Each title is reportedly being rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5 and will focus entirely on its single-player campaigns.

The report indicates that these campaign remakes will feature updated gameplay systems, including optional sprint mechanics and other enhancements drawn from the more recent entries in the series. The decision to exclude multiplayer from the remakes is said to be deliberate. Sources claim that Halo Studios wants to keep the community unified under one shared multiplayer experience rather than splitting players across multiple games.

In a post shared by leaks_infinite, the leaker explained:

“Halo Studios wants everyone to play Halo 7’s multiplayer. They don’t want separate multiplayer experiences competing with each other. That’s one of the main reasons the remakes are single-player only. It’s also significant because these games are planned to launch on PlayStation as well.”

This information aligns with previous reports that Halo 7 is already in development and will serve as the central multiplayer hub for future Halo titles. The new mainline game is expected to include its own campaign, continuing the story beyond Halo Infinite. However, much like Infinite, the multiplayer and campaign modes may not release simultaneously. There is also speculation that Halo 7 will not use a numbered title, reflecting a shift in how the series is being positioned going forward.

The same source mentioned that the development team, formerly known as 343 Industries, is managing more than four separate Halo projects. This suggests that Microsoft and its studios are planning a coordinated strategy to reintroduce the franchise to both existing and new audiences.

Halo: Campaign Evolved will reportedly launch next year on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5. The game will be a complete remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved from 2001, offering modern visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5, revised mechanics, new weapons, and three additional missions set before the events of the original story.

Despite the excitement surrounding these developments, not everyone has reacted positively. Jaime Griesemer, one of the designers of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, has criticized some of the planned gameplay changes, suggesting that they could alter the tone and pacing that defined the first game.

If accurate, these reports mark one of the most ambitious undertakings in the Halo series’ history. By focusing on high-quality campaign remakes and consolidating multiplayer under one title, Halo Studios appears to be preparing the franchise for a new era—one that extends beyond Xbox and reaches a broader gaming audience than ever before.
