Sucker Punch Productions confirmed during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 that Ghost of Yōtei will launch globally on October 2, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. Alongside the announcement, the studio also revealed plans for Ghost of Yōtei Legends, the cooperative multiplayer mode set to arrive in 2026.
The Legends mode was first introduced in Ghost of Tsushima and became a popular addition, offering cooperative story-driven and survival-based content separate from the single-player campaign. For Ghost of Yōtei, Legends will once again be offered as a free downloadable expansion for all owners of the game.
According to Sucker Punch’s senior communications manager, Andrew Goldfarb, in a post on the PlayStation Blog, Ghost of Yōtei Legends will include two-player cooperative story missions and four-player survival matches. Players will be able to choose between four unique character classes, each designed with different combat styles and abilities. The mode introduces a new roster of supernatural enemies, including demonic, giant versions of the Yōtei Six, as well as additional hostile forces created specifically for Legends.

While the single-player launch in October remains the immediate focus, Legends is being positioned as a substantial follow-up for fans who enjoyed the cooperative content in Ghost of Tsushima. However, Sucker Punch has confirmed that the mode will not be playable at Gamescom this year, meaning players will need to wait until next year for their first hands-on experience. To give a preview, the studio shared concept artwork featuring enemy designs that will appear in the expansion.
The announcement reinforces Sucker Punch’s approach of expanding the Ghost series beyond its main campaigns, supporting the franchise with cooperative and post-launch content. The return of Legends continues this strategy by building on its earlier success while introducing new features tailored to the setting of Ghost of Yōtei.
With its release now set for October 2, Ghost of Yōtei becomes one of PlayStation’s major exclusives for late 2025, followed by Legends in 2026, ensuring ongoing support for the latest entry in the series.
