Dying Light: The Beast Launches August 22, Coming to PC, PlayStation 5/5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S

Techland has officially announced the release date for Dying Light: The Beast during the Summer Game Fest 2025 showcase. The upcoming title is scheduled to launch on August 22 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Originally planned as the second major expansion for Dying Light 2, the project evolved into a standalone release after a leak in 2023 disrupted the studio’s roadmap.

First revealed at Gamescom 2024, Dying Light: The Beast marks the return of Kyle Crane, the main protagonist from the original Dying Light. Crane is once again voiced by Roger Craig Smith. According to Techland, the game picks up more than a decade after the first game, with Crane having undergone extensive experiments over a thirteen-year period. These experiments have significantly altered him, granting him enhanced abilities and a more aggressive combat style.

Gameplay in Dying Light: The Beast continues to build on the franchise’s signature day-and-night system. During the day, players can scavenge, explore, and complete objectives with reduced threats. At night, the world becomes far more dangerous, with stronger and more aggressive infected roaming the map. Players must choose between fighting, escaping, or hiding.

First-person parkour returns as a core mechanic, allowing for fluid movement across rooftops and obstacles. Additionally, vehicle mechanics—previously featured in The Following expansion—will make a return, giving players more mobility across the open-world environment.

The new setting, Castor Woods valley, draws inspiration from the Swiss Alps and features a mix of landscapes, including forested areas, swamps, a decaying industrial zone, farmland, and a tourist town. The game supports four-player cooperative play with shared progression, enabling players to experience the full story and open-world activities together.

Dying Light The Beast Pre-Order

Techland is offering pre-orders now at $59.99. Those who pre-order will receive the Harran Bundle, which includes several themed in-game items:

  • Ultimate Survivor Outfit – Based on the Juggernaut gear from the original game.
  • Harran Combat Knife – A melee weapon engraved with a nod to the first game’s cover art.
  • The Follower Crossbow – Reintroduced from Dying Light: The Following, suited for stealth gameplay.
  • In Jade’s Memory Pistol – A commemorative sidearm referencing Jade Aldemir from the first title.
  • Castor Woods Patrol – A themed vehicle skin tied to Crane’s backstory in this new setting.

Players who own the Dying Light 2: Ultimate Edition will receive Dying Light: The Beast along with the Harran Bundle at no additional cost. This follows Techland’s original plan to include two expansions in that edition, with The Beast now serving as a reimagined version of the previously planned second DLC.

Dying Light: The Beast aims to continue the franchise’s blend of fast-paced traversal, brutal melee combat, and open-world survival. More gameplay footage and developer insights are expected closer to launch.
