CrossFire: Rainbow – A New Horror FPS in the CrossFire Universe Reveal by SmileGate and Tencent

SmileGate and Tencent have officially unveiled CrossFire: Rainbow, a new first-person shooter that blends tactical combat with horror elements. Set within the established CrossFire universe, the game is being developed by Linlangtianshang, a studio known for its work on immersive action titles.

According to the game’s synopsis, CrossFire: Rainbow places players in intense, fear-driven scenarios where the battlefield is transformed into a nightmare. Locations are designed to evoke a sense of dread, with players navigating abandoned and dimly lit environments while confronting supernatural threats. One unique element hinted at in the description is the possibility of facing an enemy that appears as the player’s own reflection, suggesting psychological horror alongside combat-driven gameplay.

The announcement was accompanied by a gameplay trailer showcasing in-engine footage. The video highlights atmospheric lighting, detailed textures, and realistic environmental effects. While the developers have not confirmed the game engine, the visual fidelity and dynamic lighting strongly suggest the use of Unreal Engine 5. The trailer appears to depict actual gameplay sequences rather than purely cinematic footage, although some scripted moments are present, which is common in early reveals.

In terms of gameplay, CrossFire: Rainbow appears to retain the franchise’s core shooting mechanics while integrating exploration, environmental storytelling, and supernatural encounters. The tone is notably darker than previous CrossFire titles, with a focus on tension, pacing, and unexpected threats. This marks a significant shift for the series, traditionally known for competitive multiplayer shooting, into a more narrative and atmosphere-driven experience.

At present, Tencent has not provided a release date or confirmed platforms for CrossFire: Rainbow. There is also no official listing on digital storefronts such as Steam or the Epic Games Store. Details on system requirements, multiplayer modes, and potential campaign length have yet to be shared.

Given Tencent’s global publishing reach and CrossFire’s large player base, further updates are expected in the coming months. Fans of the series and horror FPS enthusiasts will be watching closely for more information on how CrossFire: Rainbow expands the franchise into new territory.
