Colorful iGame Shadow II DDR5 Hits 9600 MT/s on AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D with Low Latency

Colorful has shared new performance results for its recently launched iGame Shadow II DDR5 memory series, confirming impressive overclocking capabilities on AMD’s AM5 platform. The modules achieved speeds of up to 9600 MT/s while maintaining low CL30 latency, setting a strong example of DDR5 scaling on Ryzen 9000 processors.

The AM5 platform has been improving steadily in memory support, thanks to enhanced memory controllers in the Ryzen 9000 CPU lineup and optimized motherboard firmware. Memory manufacturers are also contributing by releasing kits capable of reaching higher frequencies. Colorful’s iGame Shadow II DDR5 modules are one of the latest to take advantage of these developments.

In testing, Colorful paired a 2×16 GB iGame Shadow II DDR5-6400 kit with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU and ROG Crosshair X870E APEX motherboard, a board designed for high-end overclocking. The setup achieved 9600 MT/s in dual-channel configuration at CL30 latency, a strong result for AM5 dual-channel stability.

A second configuration pushed the same kit to 9200 MT/s in a 1:2 UCLK to MCLK ratio. Although this introduced slightly higher latency, the setup maintained excellent stability, verified through RunMemTest Pro. This makes the 9200 MT/s profile more suitable for sustained workloads compared to the 9600 MT/s peak result.

Colorful also tested the kit with the Ryzen 9 9950X3D on the same motherboard. Running in a 1:1 ratio (UCLK = MCLK), the system achieved 7200 MT/s with tight CL24-37-32-38 timings. The test was completed with full stability, confirming consistent reliability across multiple AM5 processors.

Other results included 8900 MT/s in dual-channel mode at CL34-47-47-47 with a 1:1 ratio. These high speeds were made possible by carefully binned SK Hynix ICs and the iGame Shadow II’s 10-layer PCB design, which reduces signal interference for improved stability at higher clock speeds.

The results highlight how far DDR5 memory has progressed on the AM5 platform. With Ryzen 9000 CPUs, premium motherboards, and well-optimized modules like Colorful’s iGame Shadow II DDR5, achieving extreme memory speeds with low latency is becoming more accessible for high-end PC builders.
