Bluepoint Games Pitched Bloodborne Remake, But FromSoftware Said No

Bluepoint Games’ recent closure has shocked PlayStation fans and the wider gaming industry, revealing new details about projects the studio had in development. According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Bluepoint had pitched a Bloodborne Remake to Sony, but the project was reportedly blocked by FromSoftware. While Sony owns the Bloodborne intellectual property, FromSoftware retains strong creative control over the franchise, and Hidetaka Miyazaki, the company’s president, prefers to lead any major Bloodborne project himself.

PlayStation veteran Shuhei Yoshida suggested that Miyazaki’s commitment to the game’s legacy played a key role in preventing outside studios from taking it on, even after Bluepoint had successfully completed the Demon’s Souls Remake and supported God of War Ragnarok.

Before the Bloodborne proposal, Bluepoint had been developing a God of War live service game that would have explored Atreus’ journey in the series’ original Greek mythological setting. The project included cooperative gameplay elements, but the studio struggled to create a long-term engagement loop suitable for live service, leading to its cancellation in early 2025. Following this, Bluepoint pitched other projects, including a new Shadow of the Colossus and a potential Ghost of Tsushima spin-off, but these were also rejected by Sony.

Once the God of War Remake Trilogy was revealed, it became clear that Bluepoint would not be involved, and the studio’s closure followed shortly after. The Bloomberg report confirms what industry insiders had long speculated: any Bloodborne remake or remaster will likely require direct involvement from FromSoftware. Bluepoint’s work on remasters and support roles for major PlayStation titles has left a lasting impact, but the studio’s closure highlights the challenges of developing high-profile games under strict creative oversight.

The story underscores the complexity of franchise management in the gaming industry, showing how even experienced studios can face roadblocks when working with iconic intellectual properties like Bloodborne. Fans continue to hope that FromSoftware will eventually bring the game to modern platforms.
