NetEase Games and 24 Entertainment, the studio behind NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, announced their latest project: Blood Message, a single-player narrative-focused action-adventure game. This marks a new direction for both companies, especially NetEase Games, which has primarily focused on multiplayer and service-based titles in the past. The game was revealed through an official trailer showcasing cinematic visuals and a historically inspired setting.
Set in the waning years of China’s Tang dynasty, Blood Message centers on a father and son who become part of the Dunhuang uprising. Players take on the role of a humble messenger as he attempts a dangerous journey back to Chang’an, the imperial capital. The narrative emphasizes the perspective of ordinary individuals caught in extraordinary circumstances, diverging from traditional tales of emperors and military leaders.
The journey spans over 1,000 miles and covers a variety of challenging environments, including deserts, mountains, and war-torn cities. The gameplay will combine stealth, close-quarters combat, and survival mechanics to reflect the harsh conditions of the era. The developers are also aiming to capture the emotional weight of the protagonist’s decisions as he balances personal loyalty with national duty.
According to Zhipeng Hu, Lead Producer and Executive Vice President at NetEase, this is a significant milestone for the company. “We are ushering players into a new generation of high adventure with Blood Message. As our first completely single-player focused experience from NetEase Games, after two decades of deep dedication to the gaming industry, we are prepared to deliver a truly epic and cinematic experience for players around the world,” he said in the official press statement.
While much of the gameplay structure remains under wraps, 24 Entertainment has confirmed that Blood Message will feature a linear design, focusing on a curated, story-first experience rather than open-world exploration. The development team stated that the story will highlight themes of cultural identity, familial bonds, and personal sacrifice. The decision to focus on lesser-known historical figures reflects the team’s goal to present a more grounded and relatable tale.
Blood Message is currently in development for PC and consoles. The game is being built on Unreal Engine 5, with enhancements powered by proprietary technology from 24 Entertainment. However, the trailer offers a first glimpse into the visual fidelity and tone of the game, but a release window has not yet been announced.
For now, Blood Message stands as an ambitious project signaling a new chapter for both 24 Entertainment and NetEase Games, expanding their portfolio into narrative-rich, single-player experiences.
