Battlefield 6 Season 1 Update and Free Battle Royale Mode REDSEC Now Available on PC and Consoles

EA and Battlefield Studios have released the long-awaited Season 1 update for Battlefield 6, alongside the launch of its new free-to-play battle royale mode, Battlefield REDSEC. Following days of speculation and teasers, both the update and REDSEC are now live for players across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

The announcement came after a short gameplay trailer premiered, confirming that REDSEC would go live immediately after its reveal. Players who already own Battlefield 6 can access REDSEC directly through the main game menu as a downloadable expansion. For those who do not own the base game, the new mode can still be installed through the Battlefield 6 launcher, as EA has not released REDSEC as a separate client.

Alongside this major addition, the developers shared an updated roadmap that expands on the one released earlier this year. Season 1 introduces new content, including a fresh Conquest map titled Blackwell Ridge, new weapons, gadgets, and balance improvements aimed at refining gameplay for all modes.

Battlefield REDSEC features two core game modes at launch: a traditional battle royale and a new objective-based mode known as Gauntlet. Both are set on a new map called Fort Lyndon, described as a large-scale testing facility turned combat arena. The battle royale mode brings together 100 players who fight to survive as a shrinking hazard zone pushes squads closer together. Teams of two or four compete for the top spot, with players choosing their class and sidearm before entering the battlefield and scavenging for weapons and equipment as the match progresses.

The game’s loot system includes the chance to acquire keycards that unlock access to vehicles like tanks, though these come with limited ammunition and fuel, forcing players to use them strategically.

Meanwhile, Gauntlet introduces a different type of challenge. It pits eight squads against each other in a sequence of missions that change every round. Examples include Deadlock, a team-based King of the Hill variant, and Wreckage, a mode inspired by the classic Rush formula. With eight unique mission types and multiple combat zones, the developers note that it is rare to experience identical matches back-to-back.

Players can also take advantage of Battlefield Portal to customize REDSEC. The Portal tools allow for deep gameplay adjustments, enabling community members to design unique versions of both the battle royale and Gauntlet modes with personalized rules, loadouts, and conditions.

Season 1 also activates the first Battlefield 6 battle pass, giving players access to cosmetic rewards and unlockable gear. The pass includes new weapons such as the SOR-300SC carbine and the Mini-Scout sniper rifle, along with character and weapon skins. Progression is linked to gameplay, letting players unlock new items by earning experience across all modes.

The release of REDSEC marks an important step for Battlefield 6, as EA continues to expand the game’s online presence and provide fresh content for returning players. With a new battle royale mode and competitive structure in place, attention now shifts to player feedback and post-launch performance. As always, the game’s community will play a key role in shaping how REDSEC evolves in the months ahead.
