Anbernic Revealed RG DDS Handheld With Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 and Dual 500-Nit IPS Screens

ANBERNIC has offered a first look at the RG DDS, a new dual-screen gaming handheld that combines a clamshell design with two high-density IPS displays and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 platform. The device is designed for games that benefit from two screens, with a touchscreen and built-in stylus adding more options for interacting with compatible software.

The RG DDS features a 4.7-inch upper IPS display with a resolution of 1200 × 720 and a 5:3 aspect ratio. The lower screen measures 4 inches and uses a 960 × 720 resolution with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Both panels offer a claimed pixel density of 300 PPI and peak brightness of 500 nits, according to ANBERNIC’s first-look announcement.

The company says the displays are designed to provide consistent colors, brightness, and refresh-rate characteristics. Their different sizes and aspect ratios also give the RG DDS room to support games that use separate screens for gameplay, maps, menus, or touch-based controls. However, the final experience will depend on software compatibility and how individual games make use of the two displays.

Under the hood, the handheld uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 platform and includes an active cooling system with an internal fan. A 6,000mAh battery powers the device, though ANBERNIC has yet to provide battery-life estimates or detailed performance figures.

The clamshell body features alloy friction hinges and a UV-coated finish. Its physical controls include two analog sticks, a D-pad, and ABXY buttons, while front-facing stereo speakers and a Z-axis linear motor provide audio and vibration feedback. A built-in retractable stylus gives users another way to interact with the lower touchscreen.

ANBERNIC has also redesigned the control center, bringing settings for performance, cooling, brightness, volume, and dual-screen operation into one interface. Pricing, availability, and a full specification sheet have not yet been confirmed. These details will help determine how the RG DDS compares with other gaming handhelds, particularly for players interested in dual-screen systems and retro gaming.
