Microsoft may have accidentally revealed its next premium Xbox controller, and the leaked details suggest the Xbox Elite Series 3 could offer a much deeper level of customization than the current Elite Series 2. The controller reportedly appeared in Xbox Design Lab under the internal name “Edessa,” alongside a related customization platform called “Beatrice,” giving us an early look at what Microsoft could be preparing for its next-generation Elite controller.
The most interesting part of the leak is the range of thumbstick options. Microsoft is reportedly preparing Hall effect stick modules with standard, loose, and tight tension settings, while a TMR-based option could also be offered. This would allow players to choose not only how the sticks feel but also the sensing technology used by the controller.
The leaked configuration also mentions low-friction “silent” sticks in standard and longer-neck versions. These options could make the Elite Series 3 more appealing to competitive players who want to fine-tune stick height and resistance for different games.
Haptic feedback could receive an upgrade as well. One listed configuration reportedly combines impulse trigger motors with voice-coil haptics, potentially giving the controller more detailed physical feedback than the existing Elite Series 2. The leak also references an “Audio Scroll Wheel,” which appears to be a dedicated physical dial for controlling audio.

Xbox Design Lab customization could be another major part of the Elite Series 3. The leaked options reportedly include metal finishes, predefined faceplate designs, multiple colors, and engraving. Paddle configurations are also extensive, with standard, classic, and doublewide shapes available in different lengths and layouts. Players could reportedly choose a Butterfly arrangement or remove the upper paddles altogether.
The D-pad is also expected to receive several options, including cosmetic and performance-oriented designs. According to the leaked information, the Beatrice customization platform contains 27 topper and paddle combinations, suggesting Microsoft could give users significantly more control over the final configuration.
The leak reportedly lists four SKUs, including Elite Complete and Elite Base versions, with motor and non-motor configurations. The Elite Complete version is said to include a carrying case, charging dock, and additional paddle configurations, while the Base version would come with a cable and a simpler accessory setup.
Microsoft and Spectrum have reportedly removed the information from their public records, but Reddit user u/esketitethan managed to preserve details from the listing. Microsoft has not officially announced the Xbox Elite Series 3, so the leaked specifications should still be treated as unconfirmed. If the reported features make it into the retail version, however, Microsoft’s next Elite controller could give players far more control over the hardware than previous models.
