Qualcomm is expanding its flagship smartphone chip lineup with two new platforms designed to power the next generation of high-end Android phones. The company has introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, bringing a new 2nm manufacturing process, Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU, updated Adreno graphics, and Hexagon NPU technology to its premium mobile portfolio.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is positioned as Qualcomm’s most powerful mobile platform, with the company focusing heavily on on-device AI, gaming, imaging, and connectivity. The new chips are also built around Qualcomm’s push toward what it calls “agentic AI,” where AI systems can provide more personalized and context-aware experiences directly on the smartphone.
Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Handsets at Qualcomm Technologies, said:
“Today marks a milestone as we introduce not one, but two new flagship mobile platforms, delivering agentic AI experiences that are immediate, personal, and adaptive. As the agentic AI age evolves, our multi-flagship strategy allows us to push the boundaries of what’s possible for mobile while bringing our latest AI innovations to a broader range of premium devices. By designing two innovative platforms, we’re giving OEMs greater choice as we collectively shape the capabilities of the next generation of intelligent, personalized, mobile experiences.”
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 brings several new technologies aimed at mobile gaming. Qualcomm’s Adreno Neural Fusion uses AI-based processing to improve graphics, with the company targeting better visual quality and longer gaming sessions. The platform is also designed to support more advanced AI workloads without relying entirely on cloud processing.

Camera performance is another major focus. The Extreme Gen 6 supports Advanced Professional Video (APV) and Intelligent Pixel Control, which Qualcomm says can provide better scene understanding and image processing. These technologies are designed to help smartphones produce improved photos and videos while giving manufacturers additional tools for computational photography.
The regular Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 uses the same 2nm process and is based on Qualcomm’s Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU, and Hexagon NPU architecture. Qualcomm says it will support many of the same AI, gaming, imaging, and connectivity technologies as the Extreme model, allowing these capabilities to reach a wider selection of premium smartphones.
Connectivity remains another part of the new platforms. Qualcomm is bringing its latest modem and wireless technologies to the Snapdragon 8 Elite family, while the new platforms are also designed to handle demanding AI and multimedia workloads locally.
The first smartphones using the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 are expected from several major Android manufacturers. Qualcomm has confirmed HONOR, iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMI, RedMagic, vivo, and Xiaomi among the brands preparing devices based on the new platforms.
Qualcomm’s decision to introduce two Snapdragon 8 Elite platforms gives smartphone manufacturers more options for their upcoming flagship products. The Extreme Gen 6 is aimed at the highest-end devices, while the standard Gen 6 brings much of the same platform architecture and new-generation features to a broader premium smartphone segment.
For consumers, the real differences will become clearer when the first commercial phones arrive. Performance will depend not only on the Snapdragon platform but also on each phone’s cooling solution, memory configuration, software, battery capacity, and power limits. Still, the move to 2nm and Qualcomm’s increased focus on local AI processing mark an important step for its next generation of flagship mobile hardware.
