Sony Reveals New PlayStation Pulse Wireless and Pulse Edge Headsets

Sony is expanding its PS5 audio lineup with two new wireless gaming headsets that bring planar magnetic drivers, PlayStation Link connectivity, and AI-enhanced microphone noise rejection to a refreshed design. The new PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset and Pulse Edge Wireless Headset follow the Pulse Elite, which launched in 2024 as Sony’s first wireless headset to combine planar magnetic drivers with PlayStation Link.

The new models are aimed at players who want more detailed game audio without moving away from the convenience of wireless connectivity. Sony says both headsets use custom studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers designed to provide better sound separation and spatial accuracy. This can be particularly useful in competitive games where identifying the direction of footsteps, reloads, gunfire, and other sounds can make a difference.

Sony has also fitted both headsets with larger planar drivers than those used in the Pulse Elite. The company says the change is intended to provide fuller and deeper bass while retaining the clarity and detail associated with planar magnetic technology.

PlayStation Link remains an important part of the new lineup. The wireless technology provides lossless, ultra-low-latency audio and allows users to switch between supported devices, including PS5 consoles, PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac. Both headsets can also connect to compatible Bluetooth devices at the same time, giving users more flexibility when using them for gaming and other audio.

Voice chat is another area Sony has updated. The integrated microphones on both models use AI-enhanced noise rejection to reduce background sounds during conversations. Sony says this should help keep in-game communication clearer when there is unwanted noise around the player.

The physical design has also been revised. Both headsets feature rotating earcups that allow them to sit flat, which should make them easier to store and carry. Sony will offer the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset and Pulse Edge in White and Midnight Black.

The Pulse Edge sits above the standard Pulse Wireless model and adds several features aimed at players looking for a more premium audio setup. Its planar magnetic drivers have double the magnet volume of those in the standard Pulse headset, according to Sony. The company says this enables deeper and richer bass while preserving the precision needed to hear subtle sounds.

Pulse Edge also includes active noise cancellation to reduce unwanted ambient noise. It comes with a detachable boom microphone for voice chat, while a hidden microphone can be used when the boom is removed. Sony is also including a carrying case and says the headset uses premium materials.

The standard PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset is scheduled to launch in select markets during the 2026 holiday season. The Pulse Edge Wireless Headset will follow in early 2027. Sony has not yet revealed pricing, exact launch dates, or pre-order details for either model, with those announcements expected closer to release.
