Honor Robot Phone Is Now Official With a 3-Axis Gimbal and 200MP Cameras

Honor has finally put a price on its long-teased Robot Phone, and it is far higher than most recent Chinese camera flagships. The new smartphone starts at 10,000 yuan (around $1,480) in China, making it the first conventional Android slab phone from a major Chinese manufacturer to enter this price range. Honor is betting that its unusual three-axis gimbal camera system and professional video features can justify the premium.

The base model comes with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage for 10,000 yuan, while the 16GB/1TB version costs 13,000 yuan (around $1,930). For comparison, the Vivo X300 Ultra with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage costs 7,500 yuan in China, while the Oppo Find X9 Ultra is priced at 8,000 yuan. That puts Honor’s new flagship around 25% to 33% above those competing Ultra models.

The camera system is the main reason for the Robot Phone’s unusual design. Honor has placed a 200MP main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, OIS, and an f/1.6 aperture on a retractable three-axis gimbal. The setup is designed to provide mechanical stabilization and additional control during photography and video recording.

The main camera is joined by a 50MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.0 aperture and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. The telephoto unit uses a 1/1.4-inch sensor, OIS, 2.7x zoom, and an f/2.6 aperture. Honor also claims up to 200x digital zoom.

Video recording gets additional attention through Honor’s partnership with Arri. The Robot Phone supports Arri LogC3 recording, a 2.39:1 cinematic aspect ratio, and gimbal modes such as FPV and Pitch Lock. It can also record 4K video at 120fps, while Honor’s H1 ISP handles some of the phone’s image processing. Footage can be taken into DaVinci Resolve for further editing and color work.

Beyond the cameras, the Robot Phone uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and features a 6.31-inch OLED display with a 2,640 x 1,216 resolution. Honor rates the display for up to 6,800 nits of peak brightness.

The phone weighs 248 grams and measures 9.59mm thick, making it heavier and thicker than many conventional flagship smartphones. Inside is a 7,060mAh battery with support for 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

Honor has made the Robot Phone available in dark gray and silver. Chinese pre-orders are already underway, with shipments scheduled to begin on September 4. The company has also indicated that the phone will eventually reach international markets, but a global release date and pricing have not been announced.
