The next entry in the action RPG franchise, Stellar Blade, is moving toward a significantly expanded release strategy. Developer SHIFT UP has confirmed in its Q1 2026 earnings report that the sequel is not only progressing on schedule but will also mark a major shift in how the studio publishes and distributes its titles.
The original game launched as a PlayStation 5 exclusive before later arriving on PC, where it found strong momentum on Steam. The PC version helped the game reach an all-time peak of 192,078 concurrent players, reinforcing the franchise’s growing global appeal.

With Stellar Blade 2 targeting a release window between 2027 and 2028, Shift Up is preparing a new approach that removes platform restrictions at launch. The studio confirmed it will transition to a self-publishing model and aims to deliver the sequel to a wider audience from day one across multiple platforms.
In its official statement, Shift Up noted:
“Development of the next Stellar Blade title is progressing smoothly, on track to meet our targeted quality standards. Notably, starting with this next title, Shift Up will transition to a first-party service model. This will allow us to lead marketing strategies that fully reflect the distinctive identity of the Stellar Blade IP, and we expect to communicate the unique appeal of its universe to players more directly and effectively. Building on the strong fandom and evergreen IP status established by the first Stellar Blade, we are formulating an optimal go-to-market strategy designed to maximize sales and reach a broad global audience from day one.”
While the studio has not officially listed platforms, industry expectations strongly point toward PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S. This would represent a notable shift compared to the first game’s timed exclusivity on PlayStation hardware.
The decision to move toward self-publishing also gives Shift Up more control over marketing and release timing. It allows the studio to shape the identity of the franchise more directly, which is becoming increasingly important for long-term IP growth.

There have also been earlier indications that Stellar Blade 2 may expand its creative direction with broader international influences, including design elements inspired by real-world locations in China. This aligns with the studio’s strategy of appealing to a wider global audience from launch.
With strong performance from the original game and a growing fanbase on both console and PC, Stellar Blade 2 is positioned as one of Shift Up’s most important upcoming releases, with its multi-platform strategy expected to play a key role in its success.
