Subnautica 2 Early Access Launch Set for May 14, 2026 After Publisher Split

Subnautica 2 now has a confirmed Early Access release date, marking a major step forward for the long-awaited underwater survival follow-up. Developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment announced that the game will arrive on May 14, 2026. It will be available via Steam and Epic Games Store on PC, alongside a Preview version on the Xbox Game Store. The Early Access price is set at $29.99, with regional pricing expected to vary.

The announcement was paired with a new cinematic trailer that offers a brief look at the game’s evolving world design. The footage introduces several unfamiliar alien lifeforms, including massive clam-like predators and floating molluscs that appear to drift above the environment. These additions suggest a wider ecological variety compared to the original title, with new threats and exploration elements shaping the experience.

The timing of this reveal comes shortly after the studio’s split from publisher Krafton. The separation follows a legal dispute that centered on control of the studio and internal leadership. Reports surrounding the situation pointed to disagreements over development milestones and financial incentives tied to release targets.

As part of the outcome, Ted Gill has returned as CEO, taking charge during a key phase of development. His reinstatement aligns with the Early Access announcement, indicating a renewed focus on advancing the project.

Like its predecessor, Subnautica 2 will use Early Access to refine gameplay systems and expand content over time. Players can expect ongoing updates, with feedback likely playing a role in shaping future additions ahead of the full release.
