Royal Kludge has announced the R87Pro v2 tri-mode mechanical keyboard, featuring several hardware improvements over the earlier R87Pro model. The keyboard retains the 88-key tenkeyless layout, which remains a common choice among users seeking a compact design without a number pad while still maintaining dedicated function keys. The updated version focuses on faster input response, improved internal construction, and larger battery capacity to support longer wireless usage.
The R87Pro v2 supports an 8K polling rate in both wired and wireless modes. A higher polling rate increases how frequently the keyboard sends input data to the system, which can help lower latency and improve responsiveness, particularly in fast-paced competitive games. It also features tri-mode connectivity, enabling users to switch between wired USB, 2.4GHz wireless, and Bluetooth connections to suit different setups or devices.
Battery capacity has also increased compared to the previous generation. While the original R87Pro shipped with a 6000mAh battery, the R87Pro v2 introduces 8000mAh and 12000mAh configurations, offering extended usage time between charges. Internally, the keyboard features six layers of filling material designed to improve typing acoustics and reduce vibration during key presses.
The keyboard uses a gasket-mounted internal structure, combined with a 1.2mm single-key slotted PCB and a slotted PC positioning plate. This layout is commonly used in mechanical keyboards to provide a more cushioned typing feel while maintaining consistent keystroke feedback. Royal Kludge has also integrated an NTC temperature control system to help maintain stable operation during longer usage sessions.
Externally, the R87Pro v2 includes RGB lighting strips positioned along both sides of the chassis. The lighting system supports music-based rhythm effects that react dynamically to audio playback. Users can also adjust typing ergonomics with three tilt angles: 4.5°, 13°, and 17°, offering flexibility for different desk setups and preferences. The R87Pro v2 continues Royal Kludge’s approach of offering feature-focused mechanical keyboards for both gaming and everyday productivity.
