KOEI Tecmo has officially announced that a PC demo for FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly Remake will be released on March 5. The demo will allow PC players to experience the game ahead of its full launch, giving them a chance to test performance and get an early look at the remake. Along with the demo announcement, the publisher has also revealed the game’s complete PC system requirements.
FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly Remake is a full remake of the second entry in the well-known Japanese horror series. The story follows twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura, who revisit a stream they used to play near during childhood. While Mio begins to remember fragments of the past, Mayu is suddenly led away by a mysterious red butterfly. Following it, she vanishes into a remote village that appears to exist outside of time.
The village is shrouded in darkness, with night seemingly never ending. It is haunted by hostile spirits bound to a ritual that was meant to remain unseen. After being separated from her sister, Mio must explore the village in search of Mayu and a way to escape. Her only means of defense is the Camera Obscura, a special camera capable of capturing and weakening ghosts. As Mio moves deeper into the village, she gradually uncovers links between the present events and a tragic past, revealing the truth behind the forbidden ritual.

The remake enhances the original game with updated visuals, improved audio design, and smoother gameplay. KOEI Tecmo has also adjusted the controls to better match modern standards, aiming to improve movement and combat flow. The Camera Obscura has been refined to provide a more responsive experience during exploration and encounters with spirits, while maintaining the series’ slow-paced horror atmosphere.
