FYQD, the independent studio run by developer Zeng Xiancheng, has announced a new game project following the success of Bright Memory Infinite. The reveal was made through a post on X, where Zeng confirmed that the currently untitled game will be a third-person action shooter set during the Republic of China period.
In his statement, Zeng described the setting as a time of instability, where rival gangs operate behind the scenes while violence and conspiracies spread across urban streets. The description suggests a focus on close-quarters action and grounded combat, with the historical era serving as a backdrop rather than the main narrative driver. No gameplay footage has been released so far, but several early in-game screenshots were shared on social media.
The Republic of China era began in 1912, following the Xinhai Revolution that brought an end to more than two thousand years of imperial rule in China. The period lasted until 1949, when the Chinese Civil War concluded with the Kuomintang government retreating to Taiwan and the Chinese Communist Party establishing the People’s Republic of China on the mainland. Despite its importance in modern history, this era is rarely explored in video games, particularly when compared to settings such as the Three Kingdoms period, the Tang Dynasty, or the Ming Dynasty.
After the announcement was shared on the Chinese video platform Bilibili, some users expressed concern about the risks of working with real historical subject matter. One comment advised the developer to avoid the topic altogether. Zeng responded by clarifying that the game’s story, characters, and events are entirely fictional. He stated that the Republic of China period is used only as a background setting and that the project has no intention of depicting or commenting on real historical events.
Games set in sensitive historical periods can sometimes attract attention from regulators in China, depending on how the content is presented. While no official details have been shared regarding approval or release regions, the developer’s comments indicate an effort to keep the focus on gameplay rather than political or historical interpretation.
The screenshots shared alongside the announcement highlight detailed environments, character models, and lighting effects. This aligns with Zeng’s previous work on Bright Memory Infinite, which received praise for its visuals despite being developed largely by a single creator. However, Zeng noted that the new project is more complex in scope, suggesting a longer development cycle compared to his earlier titles.

Meanwhile, Bright Memory Infinite is currently available at discounted prices across major platforms. The game is listed at 50% off on Steam and 30% off on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo storefronts. On Steam, over 90% of user reviews are positive. Sales estimates based on data from SteamDB place total sales between approximately 1.18 million and 2.32 million units on Valve’s platform alone.
At this stage, no release window or supported platforms have been confirmed for FYQD’s new project. Further details are expected to be shared as development progresses.
