Neon Giant, the Swedish studio behind the 2021 cyberpunk shooter The Ascent, has officially introduced its next project, NO LAW, during The Game Awards 2025. This upcoming title marks a major step for the developer as it shifts from its earlier isometric gameplay to a full first-person open world format. The game places players in a detailed urban setting shaped by choices, alliances, and the consequences of every action.
In NO LAW, players assume the role of Grey Harker, a former soldier who hopes to leave his combat history behind and live a quieter life. His attempt at peace ends abruptly when an unexpected act of violence forces him back into a world filled with conflict. Harker relies on his experience in black-ops missions and advanced equipment to recover what he has lost and confront the powers working against him. The narrative focuses on his journey through a city where rules no longer apply, pushing players to navigate shifting loyalties and uncertain motives.
The story unfolds in Port Desire, a coastal metropolis carved into cliffs along a turbulent sea. The city operates without effective oversight, creating an environment where power struggles, underground dealings, and competing factions shape everyday life. According to the studio, Port Desire is built to be alive at every level, offering rooftop gardens, dense markets, hidden passageways, and industrial zones that react to how players interact with the world. Each district carries its own challenges, characters, and opportunities, encouraging exploration and experimentation.
Player choice drives the structure of the game. Decisions affect relationships, mission outcomes, and the city’s response. Whether players support allies, remove enemies quietly, or take a direct combat route, every approach leads to different scenarios. The studio aims to offer multiple playthroughs with branching outcomes, giving players room to define their own version of Harker’s path.

Powered by Unreal Engine 5, NO LAW builds on high-fidelity visuals, fast combat, and fluid movement. The game includes a range of military-grade upgrades, sci-fi tools, and vertical mobility options that let players adapt to missions in their preferred way. Whether relying on precision weapons, stealth routes, or heavy firepower, players can shape each encounter based on preparation and strategy.
Neon Giant’s Managing Director, Claës af Burén, noted that the project expands on the studio’s previous work. After establishing its worldbuilding and systems through The Ascent, the team aims to deliver a larger and more dynamic experience with NO LAW.
