A new hardware project named Kernelcom has launched on Kickstarter, introducing a compact mini PC designed for mobility, productivity, and seamless interaction with web-based services. The device combines a wide touchscreen display with a low-profile mechanical keyboard, offering an alternative to traditional laptops for users who require portability without compromising on functionality.
The Kernelcom mini PC features a 12.5-inch 24:9 OLED touchscreen that provides an expansive horizontal workspace for multitasking and application management. The display supports a resolution of 1920×720, a 75Hz refresh rate, 400-nit brightness, and 98% DCI-P3 color coverage, making it suitable for both productivity and media consumption. The touchscreen interface is intended to offer more precise navigation than conventional touchpads, while also supporting intuitive gestures for faster workflow management.

The device incorporates an 80% mechanical keyboard equipped with OUTEMU low-profile blue switches. This configuration allows users to enjoy a tactile typing experience while keeping the device compact. The low-profile design aims to maintain comfort during extended typing sessions without adding bulk to the unit, making it ideal for on-the-go work environments.


Kernelcom offers two hardware configurations to meet different performance needs. The base model features an Intel N150 processor, while the higher-end version includes an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U processor. Both options come with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, ensuring smooth performance for everyday tasks and larger workloads alike. The lower-spec model uses a non-touchscreen display, supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3, and includes a 38Wh battery, weighing 1.28kg. The higher-spec variant adds touchscreen functionality, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and a 57Wh battery, increasing the weight to 1.45kg.

During the crowdfunding campaign, Kernelcom is priced at $289 for the Intel-based model and $589 for the AMD-based configuration. The project emphasizes mobile productivity, combining efficient components with a portable form factor. Its design targets professionals, students, and remote workers who require a compact, lightweight device capable of handling daily computing tasks while offering enhanced input options.
