New details have surfaced about a canceled God of War multiplayer project that was reportedly being developed by Bluepoint Games. Leaked screenshots obtained by MP1st’s insider sources suggest that the game would have been set in Ancient Greece, returning to the series’ original mythological roots. The project was believed to have been in development before God of War 3, during a time when Hades still played an active role in the story’s events.
The leaked images reveal a range of early environments, including large temples, stone corridors, and vast caverns, all designed to accommodate multiple players. The layout of these areas appears to support cooperative or team-based gameplay, indicating that the project was likely built around a multiplayer structure rather than the single-player focus the series is known for. Although the game never reached completion, the images show that environmental design and visual tone were beginning to take shape before development came to an end.

Bluepoint Games, the studio behind Demon’s Souls (2020) and several acclaimed PlayStation remasters, was reportedly leading development. The studio is recognized for its technical expertise and ability to reimagine classic titles while maintaining their core identity. This made Bluepoint a strong candidate for experimenting with a multiplayer experience within the God of War franchise, which has traditionally focused on narrative-driven action.
Some assets in the screenshots appear to resemble designs and weapons from the Norse era introduced in the 2018 God of War reboot. These similarities could have been due to shared development resources or placeholder content used during early testing. It remains uncertain whether these reused elements were intentional or temporary, but their presence suggests some level of visual overlap between the two eras.
While no gameplay footage or official concept materials have been released, the idea of a multiplayer God of War raises interesting questions about what direction Sony might have been exploring for the series. A cooperative or competitive title set in Ancient Greece could have introduced new combat systems, player roles, and mythological characters, expanding the world beyond Kratos’ perspective.
Neither Sony nor Bluepoint Games has issued a statement regarding the leak nor confirmed the authenticity of the images. As of now, the project remains one of several internal concepts that never progressed to a public announcement.
Although the canceled title never reached full production, its existence hints at how Sony and its studios have experimented with ways to evolve their most established franchises. The God of War series has already undergone a major transformation with its Norse mythology reboot, and this multiplayer concept shows that the franchise’s history could have taken a very different path.
If verified, the leaked materials offer a rare look at an unmade chapter of God of War—a version that aimed to revisit its Greek roots while exploring new forms of gameplay that remain unseen in the series today.
