8BitDo Unveils NES 40th Anniversary Series with Limited Edition Controller, Keyboard, and Speaker

Peripheral brand 8BitDo has officially announced the NES 40th Anniversary Series, a new line of gaming accessories inspired by the original Nintendo Entertainment System. The launch celebrates four decades since the NES first arrived in North America, marking one of the most influential moments in gaming history. The anniversary collection includes three products — the Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller, Retro 68 Mechanical Keyboard, and Retro Cube 2 Bluetooth Speaker — all designed to capture the nostalgic aesthetics of Nintendo’s classic console while offering modern functionality.

The Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller has been reimagined with a design that mirrors the black, gray, and red color scheme of the NES. The grips feature engraved details showcasing key years in Nintendo’s hardware timeline, adding a collectible touch to the design. This controller includes TMR joysticks, Hall effect triggers, and a circular RGB LED indicator beneath the joystick.

Two programmable shoulder buttons and dual back buttons enhance customization, while four replaceable joystick caps offer additional flexibility for different play styles. The package also comes with a Retro Receiver, allowing users to connect the controller wirelessly to an original NES console, alongside a 2.4GHz adapter for modern systems. Priced at $79.99, this limited-edition controller is restricted to 1,985 units worldwide and will officially launch on November 15.

Next in the collection, the Retro 68 Mechanical Keyboard has been completely redesigned from 8BitDo’s earlier models. Moving from an 87-key layout to a compact 68-key configuration, the keyboard now features a solid aluminum alloy frame and keycaps styled to resemble classic NES buttons. It adopts Kailh Ice Cream Pro Max switches, replacing the Box White V2 switches from previous models, for smoother operation and quieter actuation.

The keyboard includes Super Buttons, two large programmable keys placed above the function row for quick actions or macros. With a built-in 6500mAh battery, it delivers up to 300 hours of use on a single charge. The price is set at $499.99, underscoring its premium positioning as both a collector’s piece and a functional typing tool.

Rounding out the lineup is the Retro Cube 2 Bluetooth Speaker, which incorporates NES-inspired design cues throughout its housing. While full technical specifications have not yet been shared, 8BitDo claims improvements in both sound quality and battery efficiency compared to the previous generation. The speaker is scheduled for release on December 8, with a pre-order price of $49.99.

The NES 40 Collection highlights 8BitDo’s ongoing dedication to blending retro gaming culture with contemporary hardware design. Each item in the series reflects the company’s attention to nostalgic detail while delivering modern performance and connectivity options. For long-time Nintendo fans and collectors, this limited-edition lineup represents both a celebration of gaming history and a practical set of accessories that honor the legacy of the NES.
