GPD Confirms Win 5 Pricing With AMD Strix Halo Processors

GPD has officially announced pricing details for its latest gaming handheld, the Win 5, which will be offered in several configurations powered by AMD’s new Strix Halo processors. This launch marks the first time that a handheld console is using high-performance Strix Halo chips, previously seen in compact desktop PCs.

The entry-level configuration of the Win 5 is priced at 9,999 Yuan (around US$1,400). This version includes the Ryzen AI Max 385 processor, an 8-core, 16-thread CPU built on AMD’s Zen 5 architecture. Graphics performance is handled by the integrated Radeon 8050S GPU with 32 compute units. The base model also comes with 32 GB of memory and 1 TB of storage.

A higher-tier version upgrades to the Ryzen AI Max+ 395, paired with the more powerful Radeon 8060S GPU. It retains 32 GB of RAM but doubles storage to 2 TB, priced at 11,500 Yuan (about US$1,600).

At the top of the lineup, GPD is offering a flagship configuration that combines the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 with 64 GB of memory and a 4 TB storage drive. This model is listed at 14,999 Yuan (around US$2,100), making it one of the most expensive gaming handhelds currently available. The inclusion of a processor with up to 16 cores and 32 threads represents a significant step for handheld performance, as these specifications have so far been reserved for desktop-class hardware.

Industry reports also suggest that GPD may release an additional configuration equipped with 128 GB of RAM. While official pricing has not yet been confirmed, estimates place the cost at around US$2,500, further targeting professional users who need large amounts of system memory for specialized workloads.

The pricing positions the Win 5 in line with compact Strix Halo-based mini PCs, which typically sell for US$1,500 to US$2,000. Unlike those systems, however, the Win 5 offers the same processing capability in a portable handheld design. This combination makes it suitable for both gaming and productivity tasks that benefit from higher compute performance.

GPD has also introduced pre-order incentives. Buyers who reserve the handheld ahead of launch will receive discounts of up to US$200 on select configurations. This reduces the base model’s cost to around US$1,220, while the flagship model drops to about US$1,824, giving early adopters significant savings.

The GPD Win 5 represents a new category in the handheld market by introducing AMD’s Strix Halo processors into a portable form factor. With configurations ranging from US$1,400 to over US$2,000, the device is aimed at users who require desktop-class power in a compact design, while also maintaining the flexibility of handheld gaming hardware.
