Sucker Punch Productions has announced that Ghost of Yōtei has officially gone gold. The studio confirmed the milestone on X, indicating that the game is complete and ready for physical production ahead of its October 2 release. Although the main build is finished, post-launch support is expected, including a day-one patch and additional updates.
Ghost of Yōtei is the spiritual successor to 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima, but it introduces a new protagonist, location, and storyline. Players will step into the role of Atsu, who survives a violent attack on her family carried out by the Yōtei Six, a group led by Lord Saitō and supported by lieutenants known as the Snake, the Oni, the Kitsune, the Spider, and the Dragon. Sixteen years after the massacre, Atsu begins a journey around Mount Yōtei to confront the group and exact revenge.
The game introduces several new features compared to its predecessor. Dynamic weather effects such as snowfall, rainfall, and auroras enhance immersion, while a nonlinear quest structure allows players to decide the order in which they pursue the Yōtei Six. This design offers multiple narrative outcomes and player-driven progression. Returning side activities such as hot spring baths and bamboo cutting are included, alongside new tasks like sumi-e painting and campsite preparation, where Atsu can cook meals or play the shamisen.

Sucker Punch has confirmed that the campaign length and map size will be similar to Ghost of Tsushima. However, the new setting is designed to feel more expansive due to its environmental detail and diverse landscapes inspired by Hokkaido. A free multiplayer expansion, Legends, is scheduled for release in 2026 and will be available to all game owners.
Ghost of Yōtei will be released worldwide on October 2, exclusively for PlayStation 5. Based on Sony’s current publishing approach, a PC version is expected to follow at a later date, likely within a year of the console launch.
