ASUS has officially introduced the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X at Gamescom 2025 in Cologne, confirming that both handhelds will be available globally starting October 16. The announcement was shared via the official Xbox website, where users can sign up for availability notifications.
The ROG Xbox Ally is built on AMD’s Ryzen Z2 A-series processor, featuring four Zen 2 CPU cores, eight threads, and eight RDNA 2 GPU cores. It comes with 16 GB of LPDDR5X-6400 memory, a 512 GB M.2 SSD, and a 60 Wh battery. Positioned as the more accessible model, it offers a balance of performance and portability for handheld gaming.

The higher-end ROG Xbox Ally X steps up to AMD’s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme APU, which integrates eight Zen 5 CPU cores, 16 threads, and 16 RDNA 3.5 GPU cores, along with an onboard NPU for AI-driven features. The device is equipped with 24 GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory, a 1 TB M.2 SSD, and an 80 Wh battery for extended play sessions.
Both systems run Windows 11 with Xbox-specific customization. This includes a full-screen Xbox interface during setup and a dedicated Xbox button that opens an upgraded Game Bar overlay. Xbox has worked closely on performance optimization, particularly with the Ally X. One of its highlighted features is advanced shader delivery, which preloads shaders during game downloads. This reduces first-launch loading times significantly—by as much as tenfold in supported titles—and improves battery efficiency.
The Ally X also introduces Automatic Super Resolution, powered by its integrated NPU. This feature upscales frames rendered at lower resolutions into higher-quality output, preserving frame rates without requiring additional developer support. With these enhancements, ASUS and Xbox aim to expand the handheld gaming market by delivering a more console-like experience on portable hardware.
