Game Science has announced its next project, Black Myth: Zhong Kui, expanding the Black Myth series with a new installment. The game is planned for PC and what the studio describes as “mainstream console platforms,” though a specific release date has not been provided.
On its official website, Game Science clarified several details for fans of Black Myth: Wukong who may be anticipating a direct sequel. Black Myth: Zhong Kui is not a continuation of Wukong’s storyline but rather a fresh entry designed to explore different ideas and gameplay concepts within the Black Myth universe.
In its announcement FAQ, the studio explained, “Upon completing the journey with the Destined One, we now aspire to take a tentative first step – to build more distinct game experiences, to challenge ourselves with bolder features, and to bring fresh ideas to our world and narrative design. Zhong Kui came as a natural choice born of that aspiration and other contributing factors. We are confident that, in this new project, we can make refreshing changes, create new things, while taking a hard look at our past flaws and regrets.”
While the project marks a new direction, Game Science assured players that Black Myth: Wukong will continue to receive attention in the future. “To all friends who love Black Myth: Wukong, the westward journey won’t end here,” the studio stated, signaling ongoing plans for the original game.

At this stage, the development of Black Myth: Zhong Kui is still in its earliest phase. The team acknowledged that the narrative outline is not yet complete, describing the project as “little more than an empty folder.” For this reason, the debut trailer consists of a CGI short rather than gameplay footage, intended to inform players that a new game is officially in development.
Although details are limited, the announcement demonstrates Game Science’s commitment to broadening the Black Myth series with new stories and gameplay approaches. Players can expect updates on both Black Myth: Zhong Kui and the continuation of Black Myth: Wukong as development progresses.
