Ys Net has revealed Shenmue 3 Enhanced, an upgraded edition of the 2019 action-adventure game. The new version will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, while also marking the franchise’s first appearance on a Nintendo console. At this stage, it is unclear whether the game will launch on the current Nintendo Switch, the upcoming Switch successor, or both.
The enhanced edition will not be published by Deep Silver, which originally handled the 2019 release. Instead, publishing duties will fall to ININ Games, which acquired the rights to Shenmue 3 in late 2024. Players who own the game on PlayStation 4 or PC will have access to an upgrade path, although details about whether the update will be free or paid are still pending.
Visual and Performance Improvements
The new edition introduces a variety of upgrades aimed at taking advantage of modern hardware. Among the confirmed improvements are overhauled visuals with 4K textures, faster loading times, and support for upscaling technologies, including NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR. These enhancements are designed to improve both the overall look and technical performance of the game across all supported platforms.
Gameplay Adjustments
Alongside visual improvements, Shenmue 3 Enhanced will feature several gameplay refinements. NPC density in Niaowu has been increased to give the city a more lively atmosphere, and a classic camera mode has been added for players who want an experience closer to the original titles.
Other updates include adjustments to Ryo’s stamina system, automatic health recovery between battles, and reduced financial barriers that previously slowed progression. For players who prefer a faster pace, new options allow skipping cutscenes and NPC conversations. Importantly, all of these gameplay changes are optional and can be turned off, allowing fans to play with the original mechanics intact if they wish.

At present, no release date has been confirmed for Shenmue 3 Enhanced. With Gamescom 2025 beginning this week, more announcements regarding the launch window and upgrade details are expected soon.
