Transcend has introduced the ESD420, a portable SSD designed with a magnetic mounting system that supports MagSafe-compatible iPhones and other magnetic accessories. The compact drive weighs only 48 grams and offers storage capacities up to 4TB, making it suitable for professionals who need fast and reliable external storage for large media files.
The ESD420 supports USB 20 Gbps connectivity and uses SLC caching technology to deliver read and write speeds of up to 2,000 MB/s. These performance levels allow users to record high-bitrate 4K ProRes video directly to the drive from supported iPhones, reducing the need to manage limited internal storage during shoots. This feature targets photographers, videographers, and content creators working in the field or on tight production schedules.
The drive’s magnetic design enables it to attach securely to devices without requiring additional brackets or mounts. This makes it easier to use in mobile workflows where quick setup and compact storage are critical. Transcend has also tested the ESD420 to meet U.S. military-grade drop resistance standards (MIL-STD-810G), providing protection against accidental drops and shocks during transport or outdoor use.
Transcend is offering the ESD420 in two color options, Champagne Gold and Space Gray. Its palm-sized form factor allows it to fit in small bags or pockets, making it practical for daily carry. The device comes with a USB Type-C cable and works with a broad range of platforms, including Windows, macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Android, and popular game consoles. Its plug-and-play design supports quick setup across laptops, desktops, smartphones, and tablets.
For data protection, the ESD420 includes hardware-based 256-bit AES encryption and supports password management through Transcend’s Elite software. An additional OTP (One-Time Password) system allows users to reset access credentials if needed. The software also provides tools for backing up files, encrypting data, and synchronizing with cloud storage services.
In line with its sustainability goals, Transcend has packaged the ESD420 using recyclable paper materials and eco-friendly inks. The product is manufactured in Taiwan and undergoes rigorous quality checks. It comes with a five-year limited warranty for added peace of mind.
